There's no denying Panic At The Disco love a theme to their tours, the last couple of years has been circus and this year seems to be....a very sterotypical view on Britian?
Panic(!) At The Disco have admitted that every legendary british band under the sun has been an influence on this album, but this isn't infact 1960 anymore. And the only people who get away with all the english-ness would be the old hippies living on eel pie island*. I could so totally imagine guitarist Ryan Ross living on there when he is 60-odd...ANYWAY FOR THE REVIEW!
Despite all this english-ness, Panic know how to organise a good show. First openers Black Gold get the crowd warmed up, many hardcore Panic At The Disco fans would know that lead singer Eric Ronick has been back up musician for Panic since the begining, but it was his time to shine and boy did he! But then of course, during the song "Plans and Reveries" Brendon Urie takes the stage and starts moaning the words "I want more, give me more, I want the burn and bliss again" which causes a riot in the moshpit. Everyone seems satisfied, including the Pretty. Odd. animal parade walking around (which were rumoured to be Panic At The Disco for a long while, well it kept the fangirls happy!)
Next band on were Metro Station, a band which did not keep the fickle London crowd happy. Glowsticks and cups went flying, but the band played on and finished their set alive. Not really my cup of tea though I'm afraid!
Then Panic At The Disco take the stage, after a not so heated arguement with my brother about what they would open up with, I exclaim when they open with "We're so starving" and the crowd go wild when they head straight into "Nine in the afternoon" after. They've got a new laid back attitude, Brendon tries to act rock and roll with a bottle of beer in one hand and an electric guitar in the other (but fails, you're not even 21 yet boy!). They belt out such album favourites like "The only difference..." and "Camisado" and before their much loved sex hit "Lying is the most fun..." Brendon declares that he is single and looking, the whole female population (which was about 2700 out of the 3000 capacity venue) go wild. They play 3 new songs "That Green Gentlemen" (which will be the next single) "She's a Handsome Woman" and finish with "Mad As Rabbits". As Panic leave the stage, a roar of "Panic, Panic, Panic!" chants through the venue, and Brendon returns to do an acoustic version of "Time To Dance".
Despite what the lyrics say for "We're So Starving" Panic At The Disco have changed, but for the better. A much happier and fresh sound (well it isn't excatly fresh, but for Panic fans who's other favourite bands are Fall Out Boy it is) will get these boys more international success. Well done fellas!
